Our Sciton laser can be configured for photo-rejuvenation of the skin with intense pulsed broadband light waves (BBL), a technology that uses specific wavelengths of light and filters to treat a variety of skin problems. (The term photo refers to light waves.) Relying on pulsed light that heats up the upper layers of skin, photo-rejuvenation stimulates skin cells to generate new collagen in the areas targeted with the laser.
Broadband light therapy is one of the best treatments available for rosacea and skin redness. In addition, it is effective at treating sun-damaged skin and conditions related to uneven pigmentation, including age spots, freckles, brown or red spots, port wine stains and birth marks, erythema, and hyperpigmentation.
Photo-rejuvenation also minimizes fine wrinkles and shrinks visible blood vessels and enlarged pores. Some skin diseases, including pre-cancerous lesions and superficial basal cell carcinoma, can be treated with laser photo-rejuvenation.
No anesthetic is needed for our BBL light treatments, and there should be little or no discomfort. No downtime is associated with this gentle procedure beyond the initial redness that disappears within a few hours. You should be ready to apply makeup and resume normal activities on the same day as your treatment. If deeply pigmented areas are treated, they may become darker at first, but they will soon fade and flake off.
Treatments may be repeated at 2 to 4 week intervals, and the number of sessions depends on your skin and goals. Most patients have 2 to 5 treatments to achieve the results they want. After photo-rejuvenation, your skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and redness, flushing, uneven pigmentation, and visible veins will fade.
